Queen Shmooquan is MIND/BODY Souffle
Queen Shmooquan is an everyday hero within whom lies a super-real modern day oracle. Her performances are hilarious, absurdly profound "mind/body souffles" of layered metaphors and the amalgamation of the collective American consciousness with the unknown and cosmic. She speaks, dances, sings, and eats her way through psychedelic journeys full of prophetic messages. She is more than human, she is super-real.
Queen Shmooquan can do many things! She is a salmon shape shifter, tap dancer, grand executioner, Monster Jerry, aspiring actress, intuitive healer, entrepreneur (SOIT=Scents Of Industry Tours, MLIYLLPS=My Life is Your Life Lifestyles Products and Services), parking lot attendant, 7 billionaire, bachelorette guest of honor, social science doctoral candidate, Prince impersonator/magician, life coach, bully, make-over stylist, roller skater, trust building team leader, environmental activist, consumer, mother of chicken babies, snacks collector, gold medal olympian, sample lady, as well as a devoted, kind, and loving friend to all who meet her.
Jeppa K Hall
Queen Shmooquan is the conception of artist Jeppa K Hall. Her work as a performance artist, comedian, vocalist, musician, and songwriter, is a hybridization of an unknown number of genres. Jeppa's multidisciplinary practice, rooted in the healing power of laughter and ritual, is difficult to describe or even categorize. Her performances have lent themselves to be featured in just about every performance venue imaginable from contemporary performance theaters and museums, to cabaret, burlesque, music and comedy stages. Subsequently, she has developed a diverse underground cult following and has been characterized as heir to Klaus Nomi, Dina Martini, Nadia Comaneci, Pee Wee Herman, Peggy Seeger, Evel Knievel, Harry Houdini, Pam Grier and Joni Mitchell. Through the veneer of Queen Shmooquan's surreal, ever-evolving layered costuming and absurd multidimensionalism, Jeppa's hilarious psychedelic performances merge pop-art clowning with comedy, multimedia performance art and music. She has produced 8 evening length solo multimedia performances, and has built a vaste repertoire of live performance pieces, video and music as Queen Shmooquan. Her other projects include her solo music project GOATGIRL, the acoustic doom metal duo FINGER with Julie Baldridge, the performance duo PIP-N-TOP, and the SEATTLE HARMONIC VOICES (overtone choir) under the direction of Stephen Fandrich. She is a sought after soprano vocalist in the Pacific Northwest, lending her voice to recordings of new and experimental music as well as traditional, folk and pop. .Jeppa is the recipient of the 2014 recipient of the Conductive Garboil Grant.
JEPPA K HALL'S OTHER PROJECTS
Goatgirl is the solo music project of performance artist/comedian, songwriter, musician, vocalist, Jeppa K Hall (aka Queen Shmooquan). Goatgirl’s skillful storytelling and unique melodic sensibilities merge with guitar and voice (a la Malvina Reynolds and Peggy Seeger). Uncommon hybridized folk music.
FINGER is the musical performance duo of Julie Baldridge and Jeppa K Hall. Their songs are scary and a little bit beautiful, combining eerie vocal harmonies with Julie’s one-woman-band accompaniment (violin, banjo, percussion) and Jeppa’s otherworldly theatrics. Free from amplification or effects, the duo's "acoustic metal" performances are raw, twisted experiments with story and sound.
